Some seek their faith in the tallest spire
and convening with boring true believers.
I feel closer to God lying in front of the fire
in a tangle of snoring Labrador retrievers.

This is a work in progress, like life.
It's a literal and figurative voyage and you're welcome aboard.

Thomas R. Shapley is a professional writer and amateur photographer who was an award-winning newspaper journalist for more than 30 years, the last 17 of which were as an editorial writer and columnist for the now deceased Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Diana G. Shapley is an emerging artist who returned to college at the age of 60 to complete her bachelor’s degree. She owned and operated a child care center out of the Shapley’s Kitsap County, Washington, home for 17 years so that she could be available for her own three children.

Thomas and Diana now live in Olympia, Washington, where Thomas is senior director of public affairs for a large state agency and Diana attends college and develops her art.

Thomas and Diana have been married for 41 years. They have three grown children and six grandchildren. They have lived in Germany, Texas, Colorado, Oregon and Arizona before returning home to Washington more than 20 years ago.

Thomas and Diana are in the process of refurbishing a 40-year-old Cheoy Lee sailboat, moored near their Boston Harbor home north of Olympia. The progress on that project will likely be chronicled on these pages.

The primary purpose of this site is to provide a virtual gathering place for family and friends.

The content of the writing, photography and artwork depicted on these pages are the intellectual property of Thomas R. and Diana G. Shapley.
